A Commitment to Inquiry and Practice

Thank you for exploring the Urban Education Leaders Program website. I hope you find in these pages a warm and informative welcome to our program.

I am proud to direct a course of study with such a distinguished history. Established in 1984 as Inquiry in Education Leadership Practice, this program has launched hundreds of graduates into top leadership positions around the country. We cherish them as our colleagues on the front lines of urban education change.

Part of what makes this program so powerful is that it brings together a truly diverse community of professionals. Our students are strong, smart people who are ready to challenge themselves to do some of the most important work possible. Our shared mission is to make a difference in education wherever it is most desperately needed, and especially in America's urban districts. We are a community of passion and promise.

We believe some of the best learning happens in the real world. Yet we also know it is important to deepen our understanding through research and take the time to reflect on best practices. That is why we have developed an innovative schedule that allows participants to continue in their jobs as they work toward their Ed.D. degrees.

The Urban Education Leaders Program is a commitment to inquiry and practice that enriches our students' experiences and improves the lives of America's youth.
